I write thrillers. In my opinion, fascination with a “mystery” doesn’t actually reside in the intricate entanglements – as some claim –  but rather in the characters. I thus am interested in persons. Not just in books.
In Latin, personare means “sound through”: the “persona” was actually a mask on stage for theater’s actors. Concepts were not just randomly used in the antiquity.
A character is then created by what he says, expresses and communicates and not by the way he is described. This is why I prefer dialogues; they are the sound of my characters.
